Why isn't there a Club Med on the US West Coast (like California) or even Hawaii?
I love Club Med for the all-inclusive concept and I have been waiting for one in the West.

Emma says I agree with Joelle. Many young Americans no longer have enough vacation time to spend two days traveling to remote destinations. To go to the Caribbean from the west coast requires flying overnight to Miami and then from Miami to a Caribbean island. Posted June 26, 2009, 6:47 pm

0Judy says Yes, we've always wished there was somewhere much closer, aside from the Mexico resorts. But I think it has to do with the cost of land & labor costs. The Club always sets up resorts in fairly undiscovered (at the time) areas where labor is relatively cheap. It would probably be prohibitive for them to have a club in Hawaii given the costs. 0Ronald says There used to be a Club Med on Kauai, Hawaii from 1975 - 1977. Guess the village was not profitable and/or the Club Med "formula" at the time, (minimum comforts, maximum fun) did not appeal to Americans. Very High labor and land costs are not deal-breakers for Club Med villages, , i.e. Bora-Bora, and the former village in Moorea, both in French Polynesia, which have some of the highest costs in the World, but these tend to be located in France or French Overseas Territories. Lengthy travel times to exotic locations is the reason why C.M. "steers" 0r encourages their North American G.M.'s to villages in this Zone, i.e. U.S., Mexico, Caribbean. 0Kirsti Frost says Judy is right. THe cost of having a North American property is really high. But we do have Sandpiper in florida, but for the west coasters, you should try out Ixtapa on the pacific coast of Mexico. There are direct flights from LAX..The resort has just been renovated as is currently ranked number 2 on Tripadvisor..Check it out! Posted June 30, 2009, 11:30 am

0Jan says I totally agree with Joelle. Getting from mid-California to Turkoise takes about 15 hours with transfers. That means I get into a club in the evening and miss a whole day of fun and sun. What about reopening Sonora Bay for singles? Posted August 25, 2009, 3:28 pm

0Linda says I agree: Club Med should have at least one adults-only village on the West Coast of North America!!!! mexico? Posted September 8, 2009, 1:12 am

0Nate says Agreed. I was searching for a nice warm place to go in Feb 2011 on a week long vacation. Can't really find anything on Trip Advisor that gets overwhelmingly positive reviews. I think we got spoiled with Club Med Ixtapa, but they must be close to selling out for President's Day weekend because the room type we normally book is not available on the website. We visited Ixtapa in June 2009 and then in Febuary 2011. June, we judged, was too hot, but February was paradise! Even Alaska Airlines flies direct from LAX and the flight really isn't that long. Until we have an option in Southern Cal or Arizona, Ixtapa is a great choice to experience Club Med while minimizing time "wasted" travelling. Would like to go to Florida but I can't tell what time of year the swimming pools are warm enough to swim in.... Posted January 2, 2011, 11:12 pm
