Does any one else regret the demise of adult only Club Meds Except for Turkoise?

Daniel says Yes Fred. We are grandparents and have been to Turquoise. It was my favorite but word is on the remodel it will go family. Ixtapa had a lot of kids with clubs and it was good. Columbus Isle had no kids clubs and it was good and still I like Adult only clubs but it seems grandparents don't usually go alone but take their kids and grand kids, big families. It seems to me that the singles crowds are in the minority and club med is so good at providing fun for kids, I'm afraid soon it will be wholly family friendly. Kids go on vacation to club med and want to eat hot dogs hamburgers and pizza so they are provided which is a shame because the food is so good it might be a great place to introduce kids to REAL great food. Jaden Hair says I just came back from Columbus Isle where they do NOT have a kids program. While there were a few kids here and there, I'll tell you that it was just like an adult-only resort. Most parents with kids would choose to pick one of the Club Meds with the kids program. Columbus Isle in the Bahamas is one resort that I totally recommend - in fact it's my favorite so far (when I'm not with my kids) Posted March 26, 2009, 10:47 am

Cathy says I'm sad to see that happen. Do you know when it's going to change? May try to go before it changes if it hasn't changed yet. Looks like Club Med is taking us off the list of places to go. I'm just glad we had a few trips in Turks before this happens. What a wonderful place it was. The Club Med is changing in more ways then just Kids. It's not the club Med we new. boraborabob says I remember the what I call the good old days. Singles, couples and no rug rats. Cool places, great picnics, 2 hours of dancing funny signs after the show, etc. 2,000,000 plus annual repeat customers. And the Club Made Money!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gilbert & Serge were in charge............then the bean counters took over and the beads disappeared. Been going down since. See my first 25 years of Club Med at: http://www.boraborabob.com/tahiti/cm25 You'll get a kick out of it if your a long timer. Since my wife passed I have spent 30+ days a year since 2001 at Bora Bora Club Med. About 10% of my life on the planet. And they just closed it. So after 25 years (1985) I'll be returning to the Turks for a few weeks in May (assuming it's still there) to see if I can find the party again, without young ones. My four kids and eight grandchildren will stay home and hope I survive. boraborabob.com ClubMedBob.com Posted May 2, 2009, 2:19 am

Joanna says YES!! Thanks for saying that you don't hate kids but don't want to vacation with them! Every time I say that people look at me like I have 3 eyes! My first Adult only was Playa Blanca in Mexico. That was a fantastic spot, although some people thought it was too isolated. Not me. Loved the way everyone spent the entire week together and got to know each other. Long live Turks! Please, Club Med...leave us at least ONE!!! If sales are down, there are many things, I'm sure, you could do to market to and attract the solo, adult traveller back...just try it...you might be surprised. Posted May 18, 2009, 10:23 pm

Linda says Even though I love Club Med Turkoise (been there three times in one year), it would be great to have an adults-only club on the west coast of North America. During my last trip to Turkoise, I hung out with folks from the left coast... it's a long flight to the Caribbean from LAX, SFO and points north. So Club Med, please leave turkoise an adults-only club and bring us at least one on the West coast of North America. The large populaton of baby boomers in the US are done with child-rearing; we like to vacation without other people's kids! Maybe Club Med could buy a resort in Playa del Carmen? Emma says I used to spend weeks and weeks every year at the old Club Med. Then, they decided they didn't like singles any more, so I stopped going. When Club Med said that they wanted to attract only "up-scale" clientele in Cancun, I noticed that by "up-scale" they meant old and obese. Posted June 26, 2009, 7:48 pm

Calvin says We've been to Columbus Isle 5 times and we only saw 1 child who was in a stroller. Maybe it's when we go, May and mid December. Posted July 28, 2009, 11:25 am

Joseph says Club Med's corporate attitude changed about the same time as 9/11. The singles market was given an extended middle finger - typical thinking from the MBA bean counters who forced out the founders after Club became a publicly held corporation. Well, I hate to rain on their parade but the current economic collapse hurt a lot more of that "upscale" clientele with kids than it did to singles. Like it or not, singles have much more discretionary income - and shareholders want profits. The emphasis may have to be changed, at least to opening more adults-only clubs and more elimination of singles supplements, or the MBA types might be looking for new jobs.
