How's the reef for snorkeling?

When we went 8+ years ago it was great but last year we caught it at a bad time and we couldn't snorkle b/c of current and sand in the water.

Anyone been more recently?

Napa says We went the last week of May and it was clear with no current 6 out ot 7 days, the one day you could go into the water just a little sandy. Posted June 28, 2009, 10:49 pm

Melanie says I went in 2006 and it was spectacular. There was a reef you could swim to in under 30 seconds from the beach that was teeming with life. I would definitely recommend. Posted June 29, 2009, 11:11 am

Virna says We went in June, it was good, the visibility depens on Rain and in the current and waves. The reef is still awesome. We did brought our own equipment (theirs does not always works well or is up to date0. They sometimes have a guided trip, that was really good too. They do ask that you wear a wrist band, and an inflatable life vest (to prove that you did pay for your entry, (it turns out it is like a state park). Posted June 29, 2009, 11:25 am

Laura says The reef is excellent - bigger and better fish than we've seen while snorkeling in the British Virgin Islands and Bahamas. Corals are about the same. The guy currently running the snorkeling is Jonathan and he REALLY knows the reef and can point out the best places to go. Best of all, you don't need to take a boat to the snorkeling, it's right off the beach. You do have to wear a snorkel vest for the protection of the reef, but you can opt not to inflate it. lori says We just got back this week. The snorkeling was great, when the conditions were good. The best part is that you snorkel right from the beach and you don't have to go too far to see some amazing fish. Posted July 6, 2009, 6:13 pm

Richard Kralick says I haven't been back to Cancun in 3 years, but the snorkeling was great then as well as my prior trips. Sometimes Mom Nature screws up the visibility, but that could happen anywhere. It's a great place. Posted July 27, 2009, 11:42 pm
