John says Kate, that's good news. The single supplement almost made it impossible to travel as a single. I would recommend reducing it and publishing a list for each season showing the size of the supplement by date and by village. Also, having been to 21 different Club Med locations, I am not the typical single traveler. It would be nice if some type of consideration could be extended to veteran Club Medders.

Bruce Patterson says I used to travel by myself for a two-week stay a few times each year to Columbus Isle to SCUBA dive and take underwater photos. Since the single supplement was added, I can't justify the expense. I started going to Columbus right after it opened. In the garden areas towards the Sea Center, the rooms there were specifically designed for singles, sharing a bath area. Why would CM charge more for this? Even, (as an ex-G.O at Turks), I would see many times where the village would not be full yet charging 100% more for a single drives away the very people that "built" CM into the company it is today. Club Med Insider says I am happy to say, we will launch a Solo Savings promotion tomorrow, Wednesday April 8. (Yep, this is a sneak peak). This promotion will be for Turkoise and Columbus Isle. Prices will start at $999 for 7 nights at Turks and $1099 at Columbus Isle (with the charter from Ft Lauderdale included). Check out the deal here tomorrow: http://tinyurl.com/ctsa7j If many travelers express interest, hopefully we can extend the Solo Savings to other resorts. Posted April 7, 2009, 1:14 pm

John says Well, I guess every little bit helps, but this looks like the normal marketing "special" and doesn't address the long-term issue. It certainly doesn't relate to Kate's comment that the club is looking to specifically address the faithful and long-term member. This is a welcome patch, but not a change in the recent philosophy of punishing solo travellers, including the long-term, faithful member. Posted April 12, 2009, 10:56 am

boraborabob says Another SS Special at same time as deal for 2nd person. Last time I paid 1/2 a couple was almost 3 years ago. As we loose our spouses there will be more and more of us "singles" that have supported the Club for 20-30 years. We need help! Posted April 29, 2009, 3:13 pm

boraborabob says Well since 1976 I/we have enjoyed 86 weeks at Club Med's. But like a lot of long term guests the kids grow up and eventually you loose a spouse. So you are now a single. Single specials always seem to come out at the same time as spouse deals resulting in paying the same for 1 or 2. Just another gimmick. Fast growing population of single older Club Med loyalists. We have time, flexibility and money. Do you want our business? Been three years since I've seen a "real" no single supp. Posted April 29, 2009, 3:29 pm

Club Med Insider says We are currently running a Solo Traveler special throughout the summer and fall for Turkoise. It starts at $999 per person (in September and October, which really is a pretty good deal. You can check it out at this url http://www.clubmed.us/cm/vacation-deals-single-travelers-savings_p-115-l-US-pa-SOLO-SAVINGS-USA-ac-od.html Posted May 18, 2009, 10:19 am

Club Med Insider says In response to John--the seasonal offering of discounts for solo travelers is not meant to punish them. This is how all hotels in the industry manage their rooms and room prices. The deals for families and couples are also offered seasonally. We will introduce a loyalty program for our faithful guests in June. It has already launched in Belgium. U.S. guests will receive information in the mail, once the program is ready for North America. Linda says Hi. Getting back to your question (what should club med do for frequent CMs), it would be great to get an upgraded room of choice, a free massage (outdoor) or maybe a boutique gift card. Of the three, I'd pick the upgraded room, because (as a single) I seem to spend the most on that of the three. Or how about a prepaid bundle of trips? Thanks for asking! Posted May 30, 2009, 5:13 pm

Club Med Insider says Solo travelers can now take advantage of great deals at Cancun Yucatan, Ixtapa Pacific, Turkoise and Columbus Isle this summer. Solo deals for Turkoise will extend through mid-December. Rates start as low as $999 for Turks and $1199 for the other participating Club Meds in Mexico and the Caribbean. You can check out the deals here. http://www.clubmed.us/cm/vacation-deals-single-travelers-savings_p-115-l-US-pa-SOLO-SAVINGS-USA-ac-od.html Posted June 2, 2009, 10:36 am

Linda says Hi Kate,
Thanks for the info on the Solo deals at Turkoise. I got a smoking hot deal for my upcoming trip in October/November! :-D

What if Club Med gave upgraded rooms (Club to Deluxe) to loyal travellers? (I have a friend who has been to Turkoise over 25 times.. he should get major rewards for staying there that many times!) I'd be extremely happy with that as an upgrade!!!

I like the boutique gift card idea... with special products and/or deals that only "loyals" can buy? (like special deals on the white chocolate bread?).

Or how about a card (or wristband) that gets you specialty drinks at the bar, a free or heavily discounted massage or other such service during your stay? Maybe a special party for loyal GMs?

I'll be interested to hear what the offering will be!! Posted June 13, 2009, 2:22 am

Michelle says I like all of the ideas for loyalty gifts and I'll be interested in seeing what the new loyalty program is. One thing that I'd be interested in is a discounted rate for loyalty members during high times (ie. Christmas, Spring Break, Summer). It's so hard to find "a good deal" during those times. Elaine says We are also in the long- term guest situation. Our youngest is now 18 and the only 1 left at home. I hope we don't have a single- supplement problem with her. Hopefully she can continue to share a room with us. If we have to pay for 4 when there's only 3 of us, we'll have a hard time justifying coming again. So an adult child for regular adult rate would be a great perk for us! Posted June 26, 2009, 3:55 pm

Arnie says A room upgrade program for frequent travelers would definitely be great, but what would really get me going would be a special rate for extended (longer than one week) stays. Depending on season and projected bookings, up to 50% off for the second week should be possible and would certainly be a great motivator. Posted June 29, 2009, 2:56 am

Brian says I want to share a different perspective on the question. Our last stay in Ixtapa, whenever we had issues (housekeeping, broken things in room, etc), the fact that we had gotten a 1/2 off deal was used against us by the staff... We were flat out told on numerous occasions "Well, you did get a great deal..."(so stop complaining was the implied finish to the sentence). I think it is equally important that you educate your team. Corporate office creates the deals, guests just purchase them. It's not our fault we got a good deal and we shouldn't be treated as less of a guest as a result. Posted July 20, 2009, 1:30 pm

Mike M says I would suggest trying to coordinate with airline groups in big city's like NY Miami and Toronto. I have been tempted to jump on these last minute deals that I see but when I look for a flight that is normally $350 they are priced between $600- $800. If you can put together a discounted flight by reserving seats on popular flights then a lot of people are able to take advantage of the discounted club med rate. I know Club Med has reserved flights on the charter flight to Columbus Isle, maybe something similar can be used from other airports. Posted July 28, 2009, 11:08 am

Rob says For a CM "loyalty gift" I would start with the elimination of CM annual membership fee. Fees for my wife and I are $120 per year. What do we get for that $120? Absolutely nothing! To me those membership fees/dues are similar to charging an admission fee to shop in a supermarket. I would also like CM to pay some small degree of attention to room requests. If a GM has a slight injury to his/her leg, then giving that GM a room at the farthest point away from the center of the village is simply thoughtless. Especially when both the travel agent and the GM called and faxed the request 3, 2 and 1 day before arrival Posted September 4, 2009, 2:08 pm

kristin says I would like to see some of the things you got rid of come back!!!! Please bring back the foam parties, they were such a blast. I would also like to see more adults only clubs (haven't been back to Cancun since you allowed children) and more clubs with trapeze. I keep going back to Turks since it is the only adults only club with trapeze within 10 hours of my home. Loyal Club Med vacationers would also appreciate an additional discount above published rates for our loyalty. If a discount is not feasible then maybe room upgrades would work. I guess I'm a "lifer" with Club Med because I have such a great time and would appreciate any discount I could get. Thanks!!!!! Posted November 24, 2009, 11:09 am

Nicoletta Contardi says Hi all, I agree 100% with all who asked for a reduction of the single room supplement. I find particularly outrageous what happens in Italy, where single travellers cannot benefit from last minute deals because the price is calculated for people sharing a double and if you want a single room you have to pay the full price + single supplement ending to pay more than if you purchased a package for 2 people with 2 air tickets. If there are vacancies in the resorts, everyone should benefit, especially longtime members, like I was before they introduced this policy (I have been more than 30 times at Club Med), and not only couples travelling together. Cheers. Niki Posted January 8, 2010, 3:17 pm

Amir says I agree with a lot of the people above. I go to Club med every year and think that the membership fee is just a major ripoff. Since I travel a lot for work, I can say that the best loyalty program is the one that Hilton implements. Gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to getting your rewards, room upgrades and the feeling that as a loyal customer the organization really appreciates you bringing it business year after year.
