Club Med Insider

We plan to travel to the Ixtapa Pacific CM in the middle of Sept (2 adults, 1 toddler) but now I'm wondering if we should reschedule our vacation because I read that the swine flu is expected to get worse in the fall and pregnant women are considered at high risk. I'll be 5+ months pregnant by then. All the recent news about pregnant women or new moms dying (in the SF Bay Area where we're from) is scaring me and I'm wondering if I should be worried.

From what I've read it seems that the resort itself will be safe so I'm wondering if the plane ride and 1 hr transfer through Mexico City Airport will be dangerous.

Sorry to sound paranoid but any advice or stories from your own experience would be great. Thanks!

Punta Cana Mom says Not paranoid. Talk with your OB, and in the meantime find out your options to postpone and/or change locations so you'll be informed if you do decide to change. The situation is so fluid that others' experiences may not reflect what you could experience, either in Mexico or closer to home... Posted August 5, 2009, 8:42 am

Patrick GO Ixtapa says Hello Jenny, as an employee here at Club Med Ixtapa I can only share with you my experience. I actually flew out of Ixtapa to Florida during the peak of the Flu Crisis with a transfer in Mexico City. The airport had doctors standing by and had all travelers fill short health surveys. They even made every person pass by a thermal camera so they can instantly see if you had a dangerously high temperature, and of course many masks were warn to cover the mouth and nose. More recently (August 4th) I passed through Mexico city airport again and although there seemed to be less visible monitoring concerning the Flu, i still felt safe flying from Ixtapa to Cancun and spending an hour in Mexico City Airport. I hope to be seeing you and your family with us next month, I'm the only Patrick here, so feel free to say hi when you see me in the village. Posted August 19, 2009, 6:28 pm
