Club Med Insider

Hey, since I went to Belize on vacation last January, I'm obsessed with scuba-diving and I want to pass my PADI certification. Club Med sounds like a great place to do this because all you have to worry about is focus on the dives, everything else is taken care of.

But which resort has the best diving spots? Or the best diving instructors? Thanks!

Elizabeth says My favorite place for dive certification is Turkoise. There are a wide range of diving options there too, once you are certified. Plus, they have 3D maps of the reefs--which I haven't seen anywhere else. I hear diving in Columbus Isle is good too...but I've never been there.

Jeff Toorish says Olivier,

Both Turkoise and Columbus Isle have the Beautiful Oceans program --that is the 3D maps. But the program actually goes far beyond that with detailed information about each dive site and what you will see there, including the habits of the wildlife. It is a simply spectacular program and dramatically enhances your dive experience.

I agree that both Club Med at Turkoise and Columbus Isle are excellent choices for your certification. The dive operations at both of those villages are run directly by Club Med which is nice.

During the past year I have dived at both and I can tell you the dive teams at each are top notch. If you have any other questions, please fee free to get in touch with me here at ClubMedInsider.com.

Gré says Hi Olivier, I don't know nothing about diving but I guess I know you!
I'm Edgards mother and I got the link to this new website from Edgard. Now I'am browsing a bit and happen to read your profile.
I think the site very clear and has a good lay out. In the meantime: on est très bien ici en France. Je t'embrasse

Bruce Patterson says Hello Olivier,

A couple of hints to make your stay at Club Med spectacular while you pursue your PADI SCUBA Certification.

While you can take the entire course at Club Med, you may want to consider doing PADI e-Training or doing your academic training at your local PADI Dive Center before you go to Club Med. This will help minimize the time you spent in a classroom, (think about it; you are in one of the world's most beautiful places and in...[gasp].. a classroom). You can also do your confined water, (pool), training at home if you wish, then travel to Club Med to finish out your open water dives to become Certified.

You will use your vacation for diving and still have time to dive more after your certification!

Bruce Patterson says Both Turks and Columbus Isle are beautiful diving spots and as Jeff said, are run by experienced and well trained professionals. The boats are well run with safety equipment and trained providers that can handle just about any emergency, though rarely needed. Columbus has spectacular wall diving with a lot of coral and fish, especially this time of year. Turks has both walls and sloping bays with an abundance of marine life. Both places have awesome visability and plenty of sandy areas where you can practice your buoyancy skills without harming any of the corals.

You think you were obsessed with Belize? Try a week at either Club and you will return home with your cheeks hurting from smiling soooo much. Have fun and dive safe. Posted February 26, 2009, 5:56 pm

Bill says I've taught hundreds of divers as a PADI MSDT (Instructor) and It's been my experience that the ones that do the class and pool work at home make the best students in the open water. They also are the happiest because they get to spend more of their vacation DIVING.

Marina Horrigan says Club Med Kani-Maldives has the best diving. It is a paradise not known to many. I would recommend getting PADI certified before you go so you can spend more time diving in the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean Island. Posted June 26, 2009, 5:38 pm

Mark says I have been diving at both Columbus Bay and Turkoise and enjoyed them both. Several of the first dive trips I took were at Club Med. I found the staff to be very helpful and my diving experience with Club Med definitely helped to make me a better diver. Enjoy! Posted June 29, 2009, 11:03 am

Melanie says I've dove at turkoise, cancun and punta cana and I would definitely say punta cana is the best for beginners. The dives in turkoise are deep because they are wall dives. The cancun dives are not entirely run by club med, and the boat that is used is difficult for beginners to get back onto. Additionally, punta cana has a lot of shallow drift dives which are ideal.
