My wife and I are certainly due for a getaway and I'm wondering what differences we would expect to enjoy at an "adult only" location??

Club Med Insider says Adult only getaways do not allow children, so you would have a different atmosphere than a resort that has children's programs (where you'll find kids from 4 months to 17 years old). At adults only resorts people tend to have dinner later and enjoy the evening entertainment later. At kids resorts, things become fairly quiet after 11:30 p.m. unless you are in Brazil :)Some resorts allow kids, but have no kids programs (Columbus Isle). These resorts have fewer kids and they tend to be older. The atmosphere at this type of resort also tends to be a little more like an adults only resort. Posted June 5, 2009, 9:46 am

Hilary says I'd just add that hanging out at the pool can be a very relaxing experience at the adults only resort. No worry about splashing, gleeful screaming, kids running through the deck chairs playing tag or whatever else. And no diaper changes around the pool. I understand some of this is mitigated at the resorts where there are kid programs and maybe even kid pools. In my adulthood, I've visited Cancun when it was adults only and Turks & Caicos (which is still adults only), and I greatly enjoyed both trips child-free! Posted June 26, 2009, 1:11 pm

Sharon says If you want to avoid the family thing, going to an adults only is the way to go! Turkoise rocks because you don't have to worry about kids running around, etc. As a matter of fact the ONLY annoying part of my trip to Turks were the airports (coming and going) where all the families were there going to family resorts (a/k/a Sandals, etc.) in the Turks. I was SOOOO thankful realizing that we would be parting company with "romper room" upon our arrival in paradise LOL! Posted June 26, 2009, 1:20 pm

Kim says I would highly recommend Turks & Caicos. It was my first Club Med experience, and it was great! It is adults only. I have been to 10+ Caribbean islands, and the beach at the Turks Club Med was the most beautiful I've ever seen. The water literally is turquoise!

Aside from the beach, there are a plethora of activities - snorkeling, scuba, yoga on the pier, tennis, trapeze...the list goes on. Definitely look into T&C! Posted June 26, 2009, 1:33 pm

Addison says Well...we've been going to CMs for years, both by ourselves and in family groups. It's true that sometimes the kids can be intrusive but it's never been a big problem. There's always an "adult-only" pool to hang out at, as well as an "adult-only" dining room or "adult-only" restaurants. On the other hand, the young adults can be a bigger problem. Try not to get a room in the building off the beach bar at Turquoise or you'll never get any sleep! Posted June 26, 2009, 1:38 pm

mike says Turks, I've been there a couple of times and loved it. I'm 35 and went with my wife both times. Agreed that it's nice to have an adult only option and no little kids screaming...however, I would also mention that if you've never been to a club med before, most of them that allow kids aren't that bad either. They have mini-club-med and most of the kids go there and you don't see them but in the mornings and at mealtimes and then later in the evening. It's certainly not like a disney/chuck-e-cheese kind of situation :D So go where *you* want to go! Posted June 26, 2009, 1:39 pm

Michelle says I have to agree w/ the other comments on going to Turkoise in the Turks & Caicos. It is THE best island in the caribbean! Beautiful water, wonderful people, and so safe! It's hard to go to an all-inclusive resort on that island because of all the wonderful restaurants, but Club Med has amazing food as well. You'll fly into Providenciales (Provo) - PLS airport code and it's so easy to get around. You will not be dissapointed w/ Provo! :) Posted June 26, 2009, 1:40 pm

Dave says Club Med is the perfect "Adults Only" destination. No, it's not a free-for-all, like Hedonism, but the clubs are open all night, if you want to, and it's a very friendly atmosphere. Everyone gathers at the bar an hour or so before dinner, and mingles. Then, you can sit with whom you want and enjoy dinner, drink, and conversation with new friends. Posted June 26, 2009, 2:04 pm

Emma says Unfortunately, Turks and Caicos is the only Club Med convenient to the U.S. that is still somewhat fun, although not so fun as the old Club Med was. At T&C, there are still two safes per room, so you can bring a friend if you're single. There is still communal seating at tables of eight so that you meet lots of people. The sports are still there. Unfortunately, the bar beads are gone, so if you don't drink, you have to pay a high price to subsidize snacks and alcohol for the obese alcoholics who have started to come to Club Med. carrie says Turks is absolutely my favorite! The water was incredible and unlike Cancun -- which I liked very much -- there are no rocks hiding underwater to whack your feet and shins on. The only drawback to no rocks is that the snorkeling at Turks is not quite as good as Cancun. But OMG the water is luscious and the atmosphere is incredible! If they still have it, go on the tour that takes you to your very own private "island" - they drop you and your sweetie off with a wonderful picnic and come back 5 or6 hours later. It's SO romantic! Miguel says I went to the adults only location in Turks and had a great time, though I have to admit that some of the "adults" drunken shenanigans left little to the imagination and a lot to be desired. Mind you I was rooming with one of these "adults" so I really can't blame them. I did have to call the front desk one night when the person in the room below felt it necessary to blast techno music at 2 in the morning. All in all, you avoid the screaming rugrats but you get a whole new set of children as well. I recommend you choose a resort based on location rather than if it's an adult only or not. Paul says I would have to second all the above comments about adults only locations. Also having been to the turks club med I would highly recommend this location. Very easy to reach..lots of things to do if thats your style or simply lying around and doing nothing..its all there. Also a very nice selection of food to fit all tastes. Jacquelyn says We love (but don't have) children and don't wild party till dawn. Still, we only vacation at the "Adults Only" resorts. When we visited one that wasn't, we were surrounded with running children kicking sand, throwing things in the pool and having tantrums (just being normal children) when the parents attempted to calm them down....and they were always seated next to us in the restaurants, up too late, tired and crying. Our wine went down fast! Posted June 27, 2009, 10:50 am

Mike says Obviously, it is much quieter as there are no kids running around screaming. Also the night life is more active as there is no need to censor the activities as much since everyones an adult. Posted June 27, 2009, 4:01 pm

Hello says Adults only resorts have no young children around but they do have the young adults. Different club med villages have different activities so you might want to look at that also. I agree that the Turks village is nice, has a nice beach. Posted June 28, 2009, 5:57 am

Robin says We stayed at Club Med Cancun in 2005 with our adult "children" and had a great time. As some have mentioned, the nightlife can go into the wee hours, but we never had any trouble sleeping when we decided to call it a night earlier than most. I would also agree with several postings that mention being able to relax on the beach or by the pool without being disrupted by kids whose parents feel no need to supervise them. Looking forward to our July trip to Turkoise after reading many of the postings here! Posted June 28, 2009, 5:11 pm

Peggy says If you and your wife truly enjoy the company of intelligent, active, fun-loving adults, then you'll truly enjoy a week (or two) at an adults only Club Med resort. I have enjoyed the weeks spent at Turkoise -- the dancing, evening entertainment, and intelligent conversations with individuals from N. America, S. America, and Western Europe. Deborah says I worked for CM back in my 20's and still love to go for a getaway. I have lots of favorites---Tursk is wonderful but so is Columbus Isle. It is more a prestige club with nicer accommodations and the artwork is superb. Posted June 29, 2009, 9:23 am

Jim Ashworth says We have traveled to many places, but Club Med Turkoise is our favorite. You'll meet people from all over the world. The entertainment, sports, diving, and sailing, are all great. Being it is so diversified age wise, your sure to back many friends while visiting the resort. The beaches are one of the best and often empty. The water is clear blue with nice warm temperatures. You can get involved in something everyday, or just kick back and read on the beach sipping a nice cold drink. Try it, you'll like it. Posted June 29, 2009, 1:34 pm

Cathy says I met my husband at Turks and Caicos. I went there by myself and never had so much fun on a vacation! I met 30 people from New York and we stayed in touch after the vacation getting together in NY city for lunch etc. There were couples there also, some on their honeymoon. There are endless activities, the staff was wonderful, and the beach was the most beautiful I have seen. I snorkeled twice a day and we never went to the same spot twice! If you scuba dive, it's a perfect place. Posted June 30, 2009, 1:14 pm

Stephen says Hi Larry. Personally, for me, an "adults only" location means a chance to connect with my better half in a meaningful way without a backyard of children (for me, Club Med's Columbus Isle). I love children but think a separation from them is sometimes good. What to expect? Do your research, find the location you like - a party atmosphere? a quiet place? - and go for it. Heidi says my husband and i have been to turks 3 times and love it, but we try to get a room as far away from the bars as possible. i'm not fond of obnoxious drunks. we enjoy the other clubs also, probably because we are a couple and enjoy hanging out with other couples. the kids are generally occupied with the many activities and we like kids anyway, so it's no big deal to us. we usually spend more time at the remote end of the beaches during the daytime. we choose clubs for the activities and sports. love columbus isle, turks, cancun (and many others that no longer exist).
