Club Med Insider

Hi, I'm trying to gauge how much money I should change into pesos before I arrive as I want to avoid a trip to the ATM when in Ixtapa. Is $300 about right to have cash for the market, etc.. I see one doesn't tip the GO's, but if I had money left over I could use it to tip local staff, right?

Also, it has been more than 20 years since I've been to Mexico, and that was Puerto Vallarta. It's hard to tell from the weather forecast on line, but I remember feeling the nights warranted a light sweater or long-sleeved shirt. Shorts in the day and pants at night?

One more question...I'm arriving around 4pm on Saturday, Jan 9 from Tokyo via LA and booked the flights myself. Can I still get a ride on the ClubMed shuttle, if I pay? Also, my flight out of Ixtapa (ZIH) isn't until 5pm or so on the following Saturday. Can I hang around Club Med or do I have to leave early in the AM?

Diana says I'm also curious about the shuttle. I think I might call to ask about it tomorrow.

I'm planning to bring around $100 but that's just what I can afford, I think $300 is probably plenty. You don't have to have it all in pesos as the resort accepts dollars and has it's own currency exchange desk.

As far as weather the reports list highs in mid 80s and lows in low 60s this week. Posted January 5, 2010, 2:44 am

Nancy says Thanks Diana, I guess I need to ask if they exchange yen and if the Club Med exchange rate is comparable to the bank. See you there. Posted January 5, 2010, 8:10 am

Club Med Insider says There is no need to tip any of the staff at Club Med, local or otherwise, with the exception of the spa. You can take the shuttle if you did not book your flights through Club Med. When you exit customs, look for the Club Med kiosk, or someone holding a Club Med sign. If you provide your detailed flight information, I can give it to our transit team ahead of time. Please send it to me at clubmedinsider at gmail.com Evenings are a little chilly. I would bring a sweater or two. Posted January 5, 2010, 9:36 am

Nancy says Thanks for the weather tip, Diana, I wasn't confident of the 74 F low temps reported on weather.com. And I'll email my flight info. Posted January 5, 2010, 10:16 am
