I would also recommend Cancun. The reef is great for snorkeling and unlike many resorts, you can leave right from the beach instead of taking a boat to the reef. I highly recommend the sailing as well. There are small Hobies which are very easy to learn to sail and one and tw0-person kayaks. Best of all the staff at the snorkel and sail locations are the BEST! They are experts at what they do but have the patience and kindness to help novices. Wish I could go with you!

We took our 18 (boy) and 15 (girl) year olds to Cancun. The water sports are outstanding: sailing, kayaking, snokeling right off the beach. They also have waterskiing, wakeboarding and trapeze. In addition, there's a volleyball net and organized beach games every day. We brought along a frisbee and made a lot of friends playing catch on the beach. My teenagers loved it and so did I.

There are security guards posted all over the resort but you look at them and wonder why they are there. Club Med is very safe non-threatening. It never occurred to me to worry about being separated from my teenagers. In addition to security, there is friendly staff everywhere so you never feel like you are in a bad situation.

The reef is excellent - bigger and better fish than we've seen while snorkeling in the British Virgin Islands and Bahamas. Corals are about the same. The guy currently running the snorkeling is Jonathan and he REALLY knows the reef and can point out the best places to go. Best of all, you don't need to take a boat to the snorkeling, it's right off the beach. You do have to wear a snorkel vest for the protection of the reef, but you can opt not to inflate it.
