Growing up with Club Med
As new parents during the 80's, we escaped to our first Club Med. It was in Martinique back in the day when there were no locks on the doors, you were chastised for wearing a watch, and you bought your drinks with beads. Escape from civilization was the intent. We discovered waterskiing and scuba diving, long swims in the lagoon, our first crazy signs, and great conversation around the tables of 8 where we could practice our French or Spanish, too.
Then we discovered that Club Meds had family clubs where we could bring our kids to be cared for, entertained and taught by competent, talented, energetic and skilled GO's, while we had our fun, too. Through the years, we and our kids discovered and enjoyed many villages, kept coming back for more, and, unbelievably, we were performing in shows, swinging from trapezes, doing tricks on bicycles, improving our tennis, getting certified as scuba divers, learning to waterski, wind surf, sail and so much more. It was like summer sports camp for all of us.
We sold our first company in 1999, so we celebrated the Millenium with our group of 15 family members, since it also coincided with our 25th wedding anniversary. After we sold our second company we decided to rent a private jet and with our group of 18 family members and friends we celebrated our 40th (base 8) wedding anniversary at Club Med Turquoise. We are eagerly awaiting the next big group trip this coming January to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We take multiple trips each year to Club Med with our kids who are now in their mid-20's, our friends, our relatives, and even my mother-in-law who is 78, because there is always something for everyone at a Club Med. And how we love the food!
Thank you, Club Med, for even bringing out the exotic dancer in me. I had the greatest time this past year when Club Med Yucatan had a zumba week.
Club Med, I look forward to hundreds of more vacations with you, until my bones are too brittle to do the crazy signs!
