A Sunny Day on Bonefish Bay
“A sunny day on Bonefish Bay”
Just watching all the beautiful people play
It is another beautiful sunrise on the island, and the sound of sea gulls soaring gracefully in the air can be heard. I don my usual island gear: swimsuit, flip-flops, sunglasses, and the all important sun-block, and I casually stroll through village making my way to the soothing sounds of the ocean. I peer through the sea oats and look at the gentle crashing waves; ah, the sweet smell of Mother Ocean. I see a couple walking toward the north on the beach, as they hold hands and splash in the shallow wake of the receding waves. What a piece of paradise, I think to myself; I will just find a comfortable spot and watch all the beautiful people play.
I make my way to a vacant love seat on the beach, and the linen sheet that is draped across the top of the chair is just enough shade to keep from getting too much sun. As I stretch out on the large comfortable cushion, the sea breeze is causing the linen sheet flow in the wind, and the breeze feels so refreshing. It is Thursday morning, and my time at Columbus Isle is drawing nearer to the end. I only have two full days left, and I intend to squeeze every ounce of fun out these last two days. Up until the point, this trip has been phenomenal, and each time I let my brain think about departing, I become depressed, so for the rest of my trip I am not thinking about leaving until I have to climb aboard that bus.
I lay there quietly thinking about all the great times I had experienced since I had arrived. There are many amazing and wonderful things at Columbus Isle, but I guess my greatest surprise has been the G O’s or Gracious Organizers (I think). They are some of the nicest and friendliest people I have ever met, and their every thought is about making the guest happy; they do a great job at it too! They come from all parts of the world, and yes, most are very attractive and in great physical shape. Each night I have a great time dancing, carousing, and just having the time of life with many of them. They treat like they have known me forever, and that really makes me feel welcomed; I am going miss these guys tremendously! I am already planning my return trip, but many of these G O’s may not be here when I return, although I am sure that the new ones will just as great.
It is time to take a sailing trip. There are not many people out and about at this point, so I can take nice long relaxing sail on one of the many catamarans. I had not been sailing in about 20 years, and I was a little rusty when I first arrived here, but now I have my sea legs again, and it is such a blast. There is nothing like cruising on the open ocean, cool sea breeze blowing through your hair, and the refreshing, salty spray, coming from the waves, splashing on your face, as you cut through the waves. The breeze is about 15 knots, and the catamaran is making way nicely; I trim the sail nice and taunt and hang out off the side to give her counter balance. You can obtain some great speed in these 15’ boats, but you also can be catapulted into sea if you get a little too brave, so I use great care not to get a little too much wind in my sails. I sailed at least once every day during my stay at beautiful San Salvador. What a wonderful way to start out a day; cruising on the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean. God I wish I was sailing again!
Walking back down the beach, I see that business is picking up on the beach. Two days ago, Air France brought in about 180 people for France and other parts of Europe. May I just say that the scenery has taken a turn for the better on the beach; those European women do not seem to be shy, if you know what I mean. Luckily, I have my dark shaded Ray-ban sunglasses hiding my wondering eyes. I am just admiring God’s handiwork, and let me tell you that He is a great artist, for the beach was full of beautiful bronze bodies. Male or female, you will have plenty of eye candy to arouse the mind in a joyful way.
The Azul beach bar is jumping now. The music is playing, and the great bartenders are serving up your favorite beverage, cocktail, beer, or wine. When you need to eat a little something to soak up some of that free flowing alcohol, the grill at the Azul is great. This is the place to be during the day, for everyone starts their happy-hour a little early at the Club Med, and why not, you are on vacation in paradise. There are plenty of places to get comfortable on the beach. You have these cute little love-seats that have a cushion about the size of a regular bed and there are plenty of beach lounge chairs. Some of the lounge chairs are located under home-made thatched roof huts that are built by some of the locals on the island; when the sun is baking down, you will find that these huts provide much needed shade, and also, some protection from those passing afternoon showers that sometimes occur.
Some of the G O’s come walking long beach gathering up players for organized beach volleyball. Of course I jump in with the crowd, and we head to the sand filled court area. Beach volleyball is a blast, but after playing for an hour or two, you will admire the professionals that do this for a career. The sand at Columbus Isle’s beach is about 4-6 inches deep, and you quickly find that, running, jumping, and playing volleyball is much different on this beach. Nevertheless, it is an awesome time, and when you get covered with sweat and sand, you just dive into the crystal blue refreshing water that is just a few feet away. It does not get much better than this, and again, the scenery is fantastic.
After all that, it is time to head to the room take a nice cool shower, and a quick break. Then it is off to the Beacon bar to watch the amazing sunsets at Columbus Isle. Each night I sat watching the sun as it disappeared below the horizon. Each night I was hoping to catch a glimpse of that illusive mystical Green Flash. I have seen many pictures of it, but I have never seen it occur in person, yet. That is just too bad, so I guess I will have to just keep coming back until I finally see it; well, somebody has to do it, so it might as well be me.
This is a great place to end your day and start the new night. It is Thursday night, and it is beach party night! This was one of my favorite nights. There was beach volleyball, music, dancing, great food, and a great time had by all. A billion stars were twinkling in the Caribbean sky, and the waves were gently rushing ashore at low tide. The Tiki lamps were dancing to the music, and it is just one of the nights that you never want to end. I sat at table surrounded by all my new and fantastic friends, the G O’s, and others, and thought to myself, “what a wonderful ending to a magical day of watching the beautiful people play, at Bonefish Bay.”
