Club Med Insider

Adventure on the Yucatan Peninsula

It was great for my husband and I to get away for a week (although we missed our seven month old -- a vacation was needed) and escape to the beautiful beaches in Cancun!

I wanted to point out the BEST experience Club Med offered -- which was the Eco Coba tour. Our guide Anja was very knowledgeable and friendly and we learned a LOT about the Mayans and Mexico in general. We have been to Chichen Itza before, but Coba was so cool, b/c it still had a somewhat "unexplored" feeling, as there was still a ton of jungle growing up around the entire area (whereas Chichen Itza feels a little more barren and crowded). Being able to bike to all the sites was also a major plus and made it more fun. The highlight, however, was being able to swim in the Labnaha Cenotes (caves filled with fresh water). They were just discovered in 2003 and the path to them doesn't allow for big coach sized buses to get through -- so it felt very private (our small Club Med group was the only one there at the time) whereas other Cenotes with easier accessibility can become crowded. We climbed down into the cave and then were able to jump in the water in the main cavern, then navigate through the labyrinth of stalactites (and a few bats) to get to the back caverns. The water was crystal clear and the entire experience was amazing.

On property, we took salsa lessons (thanks to the persistence of Carlos, the GO) and spent lots of time on the beach. Big shout outs to Carlos and Drew (the GO from California) as they were GREAT. We watched two shows, the Michael Jackson show and the Circus show and were blown away by the talent of the GOs, especially the one who did Michael Jackson -- it was like watching Michael, himself.

The staff was all very friendly and accommodating, but those were some of the standouts.
